Greedy car-rental owners' get $ quick scheme

Basically messed up my credit score & if not now, in future unless I pull whatever sum my debt with this company has reached. Try to see if the people are Indian, if you aren't then you'll probably be best off just going through Hertz or another option. I'm sorry, I had three different car rentals over a fairly brief period of time, looking back in hindsight... I KNOW how to drive a stick shift. I can drive a manual transmission but these *** went on to claim damage to that part of their Mustang, which was never mistakenly booked online. I can read. I know what I picked and paid for. Now for my late pickup & late drop-off there isn't an excuse for that but those factors in addition to a cigarette burn in the leather interior which was ALREADY THERE when I got INTO THE CAR. Unless these folks have proof of otherwise (they took no record/pictures/EVIDENCE at the time I picked the car up... I'll bet they claim they did, it's been a couple years now & it's probably long gone behind this disgusting couple... Seriously. NOW I have some debt collector on my case for this pricey car rental that sustained some damages (not all are material! I'll take the fall for the cigarette burn not because I'm aware that I did so but because I didn't lie or hide anything even though I see now that I should've realized these people would see some golden opportunity to capitalize on easily with this *** little 20 year old white girl getting everything she wants in life and never struggling when I came from x y and z... not a big deal. From the couples' perspective, I can see why the end result was what it is. I haven't followed up with anything regarding this matter because it hadn't occurred to me until it's a resentment festering that I'm not going to be able to let go until there's something done about such greed and unfair conduct & I feel seriously taken advantage of and misunderstood by this... I did send one response to the debt collector or attorney assigned this case, requesting that I get some form of proof that I did damage that didn't already exist on the car. I don't recall EVER having ANY incident that'd result in the gears being damaged from misuse, herein giving these greedy *** the green light to make me pay for my disrespect in being late and being a tobacco smoker at that time. I wasn't raised that way and I know when I'm wrong and when something isn't right and this, it honestly just isn't right and it's frustrating as *** because it's going to affect my credit and I'm at a point in my life where I'll be needing it. I lost two close relatives in the past two months and things are coming into perspective and giving me quite the scare. That said, I'm not letting these people just get away with fxcking me over because before I had no cares or time to fuss with explaining myself and all that stuff that isn't consistent with most young-adults around the age at that time. I'm 24, like I said, things are a lot different so something's going to have to happen. Relayrides said I'll be able to use their service once again, once I pay up the full ticket amount which is some thousand dollars of course. You can't just replace a TRANSMISSION like that. Of course it'll be expensive... Honesty isn't the best policy with indian people and that's just my experience - I get taken advantage of and stepped on, seriously. Like never before. Call me a racist or stereotypical but I'll take that until I start seeing some change in the people I'm dealing with. I know I didn't do the damage these people claim and I know they are not cautious and calculating the way the next car owner who rented to me was... He walked through with me and took pictures of the car in the state it was in at that moment I received the car, all very thorough. I didn't read all the FAQ and websites fine print at this point so the process was a little bit of a breath of fresh air that made so much more sense than the previous experience(s). He was Asian but that's irrelevant, thanks again - white Malibu car-owner who took measures to ensure neither of us got *** off and guess what, that went over without any issues. And I had driven several manual transmissions up until then!!!!! I know I did not do what these fraudulent *** are doing to me. I'm stopping this.

Denied

RelayRides - Denied
Denied - for no reason. I meet all of their requirements but was denied a membership. I gave them my social security number, address, photo of my license, photo of my face, and credit card information and they are unable to disclose a reason why. I understand this has happened to other people. Now they have responded to my inquiry saying any emails or questions I have for them won't even be responded to. What are they doing with the sensitive customer data, social security numbers, and credit card information with the people they deny? How are they able to take this information and then deny a reason? And then say they're no lot even going to respond to emails.

I was also denied due to my "transunion auto score" which is odd because i have a perfect driving record no tickets ever, i have always kept valid insurance, and I have never had a wreck. When I got a transunion agent on the phone she told me they keep no such score.

When I called Turo back and explained this to them the turo agent told me that an auto insurance score is indeed real but she does not know where they get it from.

She went on to tell me that this score is based off the likelihood of the account holder to file a claim. I went on to tell her i wanted to file a discrimination claim because I have never in all of my 35yrs filed a claim of any sort so in order for them to come up with such a thing they had to have based their decision off my gender, age, race, or religon but most definatly not driving record!

Same here. I have excellent credit, no accidents, no traffic violations, no insurance claims in over 10 years, homeowner, business owner. If they can't approve me to rent, they must have very few customers.

Guest

Omg! This happend to me and a friend of mine as well.

They made us send photos of face holding license, pic of drivers license and a pic of credit card and they still denied me. The first trip was good no problems except one.

I paid for the rental then noticed a couple of hours later that more money was taken out of my bank account. So now I'm thinking this site is a scam and I'm going to figure out what's really going on.

The same thing happened to me. I meet every requirement. I am thinking of taking legal action.

The same thing just happened to me in Kentucky.

Complaint against extreme unprofessionalism

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have never expected such an unprofessional attitude from Turo. I was on hold by your customer representative from past 30 min so that I could connect to Miss Kristen in claims department but after waiting for so long my phone was disconnected by Turo. Not to mention this is not just one incident, I have been requesting her to call me back from past 2 days and every time I get some or the other false assurance that she would be calling in an hour etc. Apart from that, I have called and emailed Turo atleast 50 times from past 2 weeks. You guys should write a disclaimer on your website for owners "Beware to list your cars on Turo. You will be troubled like anything if something happened to your car". I never expected such unprofessionalism from a growing company like Turo. Customer satisfaction should be their first priority. I have never been in so much mental trouble than my last 2 weeks while talking to Turo. I hope Turo rectifies all these. - Shobhit Mehrotra shobhitrox@***.com

AWFUL! CAN TAKE YOUR MONEY WITHOUT WARNING!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
TERRIBLE company. I am a host through Airbnb and love the all the new sharing apps out there. This one is DO NOT USE for sure. I returned my car in tip top shape yet the owner filed a claim. Turn states that it can withhold AT LEAST $300 even if you win the case!! It is for "processing" or taking the time to deal with it or what ever. Luckily it was not me who caused the damage but another driver. Otherwise I would have been in the hole for SO MUCH MONEY. NEVER AGAIN will I EVER rent from this company. I have never been so stressed in my life. Its not worth being completely stressed your whole rental period that the owner may think you caused so damage, however small it might be. TURO SIDES WITH THE DRIVER! THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, and they will have no problem doing it. You will be SOL. I never have to worry about this with Enterprise. So with them I will stay. USE THIS SERVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Terrible website now as turo.com

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The turo website is now hobbled compared to what relay rides used to be. You used to be able to contact a car own to get answers to questions like whether a car was smoke free or if you could wiggle in a few extra miles, etc. That ability to contact is now gone. IF you try and call Turo for support, you get a very narrow range of selections most of which say to use their website. After a terse set of options, none of them which applied to what I wanted from them, their machine just hung up on me. This is about the worse customer service I have seen in regards to renting anything. I would not recommend turo until it opens up lines of communication, both to their owners AND to their support group. Real human beings like to talk to one another, it's more efficient. Assuming a lofty and distant stance relying on email alone is a really cold shoulder approach. Very bad.

I rented a car through Relayrides for a quick 2-day trip, and I've been dealing with Relayrides for almost a month now for the damages I didn't cause, and they're still chasing after me for money. My nightmare started one day after my rental's over when I got the damage claim email for a front bumper scratch and a tire pressure problem. The owner claimed that I caused both damages and Relayrides sent me an email saying they will initiate a $550 processing fee in one business day, wtf? I didn't think of anything like this would happen so I didn't take evidence pictures on purpose, but gladly I took some pictures when I got the car that luckily can prove that the scratch was already there. I also took pictures of the air pressure warning message on the dashboard to kindly let the owner know so he can fix his car not even to blame him for his car giving me trouble and inconvenience during the rental, and not to expect he would use my kindness against me. When I provided my photos and the pictures the owner uploaded to Relayrides in comparison, since they showed the same scratch. The Relayrides representative asked me where I got his pictures and told me she didn't see them while it's on their website the whole time. This shows that Relayrides claim department didn't care to look into the case enough to the point that they didn't even see the pictures on their own website that were uploaded by the owner when he dropped off the car that vaguely show the same scratch he claimed to be caused by me! What a joke?! After I proved the scratch was already there and the air pressure wasn't caused by me "hitting something in the front without me noticing it that caused the front scratch and the tire pressure problem" claimed by Relayrides and the owner since the time didn't even match up! The air pressure problem came up in the last hour before I returned the car. What a pain in the *** that I had to investigate everything while all relayrides did was to convince me that "I caused the damage without noticing it" and they were all ready to charge me for whatever estimate the owner is going to tell them. After I finally proved that the front scratch was pre-existing to my rental, I got a message in a few days from debt collect company Sphere Risk Partner asking me for my insurance policy and told me I'll have to pay for the damage. I called them up and they told me they already paid the owner for the damage. Relayrides seems so irresponsible at this point to their renters. I would never trust this company again. Without getting any email from Relayrides after they promised an update if anything changed, I got an email asking me to pay for all the damage while the last time I checked with Relayrides, I wasn't at fault. Relayrides ignored me for a few days after I sent them an email asking what's changed. I was left with a money collecting email without any explanation from relayrides, all i could do is wondering anxiously what's going on and why they're asking me for money again?! They wrote back finally told me the owner is pursuing the back scratch that he told me in person "he was pretty sure it was already there", which I told relayrides also. I told Sphere Risk what happened and they told me they're closing their file and please to contact relayrides directly. And almost a month past, Relayrides is still chasing after me to pay for the back scratch that wasn't my fault at all. Obviously the owner wasn't being honest: he changed his words from "i'm pretty sure the scratch was already there" to asking me for money for "the old scratch". HOWEVER, Relayrides doesn't care if he was honest or not while all they did was is to ask me for money. Second, somebody hit me from behind at stop sign and I reported to his and my insurance company just for record since neither me or the hitter could see any obvious scratch that was caused by the touch of the car behind me. However, the hitter wasn't an honest person either. He gave me an insurance card that has already expired with GEICO. My insurance agent contacted GEICO and found his new insurance. Nevertheless, Relayrides didn't really care that the accident was solely the third party's fault and they claimed the hitter didn't have an active insurance, so they asked me for money today again while i'm waiting for more information of the hitter's new insurance that he had when the accident happened. They told me they will charge my card in one business day after I told them my insurance agent already created a claim with the hitter's new insurance. Relayrides ignored my request to hold the charge as if they didn't see my email and my card will be charged for a scratch wasn't at my fault. I HIGHLY SUGGEST EVERYONE think twice before they rent a car from RELAYRIDES since it's not worth the risk and the hassle to deal with dishonest owners, while Relayrides wouldn't do much to help except for asking you for money. With the money saved, you may pay MUCH more for a damage you didn't do.

Well, check this out. I joined Turo. Didn't rent for a while. Decided to give them a try when I was out of town. Paid the rental fee plus a delivery fee, money came out instantly from my credit card. On the way to get the car I am told the owner canceled and my membership has been declined. I was already a member. Their support team had given me a $50 credit and my thinking was they didn't want me to use the credit. Personally I think they are discriminating against people who are not white and they are going to be outed sooner than they think. Their proprietary whatever I think is partly based on people's race. I meet all the criteria they have publicly listed except for the proprietary criteria that is secret. But mark my words, companies that are racists even if hiding behind proprietary methods do get outed at some point. This is America. Thou shall be outed.

Rented out Car with expired registration and expired insurance

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They have changed their name from RelayRides to Turo. Rented out a Toyota Prius for 3 months. Car was in good condition, but major problem with the way Turo operates. They allowed a woman who doesn't own the car to create a Turo account and rent out the car with expired registration and expired insurance. She told me the car was her bosses car. When I asked to see the registration when she delivered the car, it wasn't under her boss' name. The car actually belonged to her boss' girlfriend. I paid Turo upfront and the car was delivered to me with registration and insurance that had expired 6 in mid-2015. I have documented proof of everything. Not sure where to leave this review, but want people to know that Turo clearly doesn't have enough safety checks in place to prevent this kind of disaster.

Relayrides Jeep Car Rental Review from Jonesboro, Georgia

I thought it was an awesome idea to be able to rent a nice car for a decent price. Then I rented a very nice Jeep Wrangler and returned it without any damages. The car owner filed a false claim for 800 stating the vehicle was damanged. He posted Picts of a jeep that wasn't the one I rented. Turo took the 800 out of my account without any notice. Of course I reached out to the claims specialist which wasn't no help at all. I provided her with tons of pictures of the jeep. I asked for a payment plan but they still keep on trying to charge my card 800 up front. It's very upsetting, because I don't Have this kind of money to be wasting . I don't know what else to do!

Relayrides Car Rental Review from Detroit, Michigan

This company should be shut down. A couple of months ago, my car was totally unreliable until I could get it fixed, and I signed up for Relay Rides. I found a vehicle to rent for a week. In the middle of that week, I was informed that my own car wouldn't be ready when my rental was up. So I went back to the website and attempted to reserve another rental starting the day after I returned the current one. Can you believe that you can't do that? You need to return your current one BEFORE you can reserve another one. This makes no sense to me. They make you pay before the reservation is made, so I'm not really sure why you can't make a reservation in advance. Therefore, I tried to make an account with a different email address. I didn't think it would be a problem, since after it denied my reservation, the website told me only one car per ACCOUNT. So, when the website says I can't rent cars at all, I call relay rides. (By the way, had to press the number for an "emergency" just to get to a real person. The only customer service is through email, and they take over a week to respond. So I finally talk to someone and explained what happened. He said he took care of it and I can now rent cars. Well, that was a lie. I call again, and am told the same thing. Still can't rent cars. I then email asking the same thing, and am told the support team is taking care of it and I should get my decision in 3 days. After 7 days, I emailed back, and was told my case was transferred to a fraud professional and gave me her email. No response from her for over a week. When she finally did respond, asked for pics of my cc and drivers license. Sent them, no feedback. Emailed her and was told the pictures weren't clear enough. A blind man could have seen it was me. So I resend them, and get no response. Over the course of the next month, I emailed this lady over 6 times, and get an automated response EVERY SINGLE TIME. Finally I got frustrated and told her that I need an actual answer this is important for me right now...I made another account on accident and for Pete's sake can you please give me the contact info of your manager. Guess what? My claim was denied, and they won't tell me why. They finally switched their name to Turo because it's under "new management". Try to call Turo to see if I will be reinstated and treated better, but nope. Horrible horrible company. You've been warned. What a nightmare

Relay Rides Rip Off !! More Loss to Car Owner If Car is damaged with no accountability by Renter or Relay Rides.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Plight of dealing with Relay Rides :(No wonder they are not bbb accredited which I had known this earlier until now) My Yelp Review : http://www.yelp.com/biz/relayrides-los-angeles?hrid=34PGG78YyB2h-Dm0QB9_-A&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) Ref : Relay Rides Reservation ID - 800623 My ordeal begins when I put our 3rd Car on Relay Rides by getting Lured by Quote... Relay Rides Claims : 1) Your car is covered by our $1,000,000 liability policy during every rental. It covers any damage to or theft from your car, with no out-of-pocket expenses. 2) Your safety is our #1 priority. We screen each renter and run additional verifications to maintain a safe marketplace. Unquote.. Unfortunately none of these claims hold true when it really comes to Execution. Makes us feel it's a Bogus Claim. I put my Wifes very dear car her VW Red Convertible Bug on Relay Rides as it was our 3 car and most of the times sitting in the Garage as we occasionally use to drive it. So it occured to us looking at Relay Rides CLAIMs which is indeed "Too good to be TRUE" ( Unfortunately late realization ). We were Naive at that point and never expected anything Negative would happen as Relay Rides claims it does good screening of its Renter and we take their word for that. Also they do huge claims about 1 Million $ insurance if anything goes bad in the Renting Process. So we thought We are all Covered and it's safe to DEAL with Relay Rides but the bitter FACT is it's an ORDEAL to DEAL with Relay Rides. Our Car was rented by a student from the East Coast for a duration of little over a month. We had our car sparkling clean before we handed the car to the Renter. Also we trusted the Renter based on Relay Rides claims of Screening etc. For the Return the renter changed her schedule and decided to leave 2 days earlier from the scheduled Rental duration. Since it was a Friday and very short notice for us that too after my wife checked with the Renter on her schedules she was told that the Renter would be leaving 2 days earlier i.e Friday instead of Sunday. Since we stay and work too far from the Airport there was no way for us to make it to the Airport to pick up the car from the Renter which we personally wanted to so that we get chance to inspect in front of the Renter. Since we were not able to make it we still accomodated the Renters request and arranged a Valet at the Airport for Renters convenience. We picked up the car next day and little we knew about a HUGE UNPLEASANT SURPRISE for us at the Valet where our car was parked. It was ALL TRASHED without any exaggeration with multiple DAMAGES both INSIDE OUT. Damages as under : 1)The car was dinged at the back(rear bumper damage) and passenger door. - $600 2)The Roof top of the Car was completely damaged with broken parts just stuck in the car. The Soft Roof had wear/tear marks. - $ 1800 With labor + new Softtop roof 3) Passenger side door from Inside had deep scratches at the Edge . - Not asked 4) Rear Passenger side had Deep scratches from inside. - Appx $ 300 repair + repaint 5) The blank piece under the AC panel was broken. - Not asked 6) The Windshield had a crack which got noticed after the car wash as it was hidden by the Dirt and Grime on the Car. - appx $350 7) The car also developed some Mechanical problems with the Throttle Body. - $850 Total Cost of Damages : Over $3000 in total actually and I still did not even ask the full damages to be reimbursed Cleanliness Issues : 1) Car was full of Dirt/Muck inside out. 2) Bird *** inside as the Soft roof must have been down and was parked. Was never cleaned. 3) Foot marks all over the Glove box door. Lot of Beach Sand all over the car , seat covers etc. 4) Fluid drop over the leather seat covers and Gear panels. Also the car was never returned with Full Gas which is quite negligent and I never got a chance to claim it. I tried to pursue this initially with the Renter based on Relay Rides site advise that any damages initially needs to be tried and worked out with the Seller . I was doing just that and when I called the Renter promised that she will work out the expense of the damange. We as usual trusted the Renter and fell into the trap. It was a weekend and we did not have any estimates nor an actual account of the Damage. Later on after constant follow ups via email / phone / text when we notices the Renter is being evasive we tried to get in touch with Relay Rides as we thought we were following the protocol. Relay Rides claims we need to do the claims within 24 hours which is ridiculous and impractical. First of all we are not awake 24 hours .Also if its a weekend we do not have any auto shop available to understand the extent of damage and appraise the same. This is a personal car. There is lot of other things we need to deal with in our daily lives as Relay Rides is not the only thing we thrive on for our livelihood. Long story short - Relay Rides has been unsupportive,unco-operative,insensitive to my loss/damages.

A great place for Car Owners who want to get their car fixed at renters expense

Be VERY cautious if you use this service and record the entire before and after transaction with the renter - even if that feels icky and non-trustworthy as apparently this service supports people screwing over the renters by owners claiming false damage that was either previously noted or happened after the return (I returned my car at 5:30am and the owner notified me the car was damaged at 3:30pm though when car was returned no damage was noted). I refuse to pay and now they are sicking a credit collector on me. *** Relay Rides. You claim the evidence satisfied your requiremnets but never provided any of said evidence to me for review.

Hi there- this is also happening to me but want to fight it. What was the outcome? Did you end up paying?

Guest

Hi,

The same thing is happening to me. They are claiming I did damage to the underside of the front bumper and are now saying I'm liable for over $900 in damage.

I have my own personal insurance and the claim was denied due to lack of evidence the damage was caused by me.

Now they are saying I have 5 days to pay or it will be turned to collection and they will be providing no further information other than I owe this amount. I will be contacting an attorney as I'm sure this is a deceptive business practice.

Guest

Yes you are extremley right, I use to rent from them but after a owner lied and they said my account was on hold because the owner said her engine light was on. And she need a new engine after I rented from her for a day I was done. So please be very very careful.

Relay Rides did the same thing to me. When a renter totaled my Prius the company Relay Rides insurance refused to pay me a dime.

I was so upset that I finally retained a lawyer. He thinks it's a good case and asked me to reach out to others that had the same experience for a class action.

Would you email me? I'd love to hear what you went through and maybe we can help each other

RelayRides - Car Rental Review from Los Angeles, California - Image 2
My friend rented a car through RelayRides in El Segundo Ca. On 5/27/15 I borrowed the car to take things to my storage and picked up a passengenger who was wrongfully wanted for a serious crime. He has been cleared of any wrong doing. The police pulled me over and eventually shot my passenger 6 times outside of the car. I was taken to jail for 21 days for previous traffic sitations. When I got out I spoke with my friend about my property that was inside the car. 3 laptops, $397 in cash, my wallet with DL, DEBIT cards etc. 3 expensive cell phones, my designer purse with makeup, clothes, shoes, camera, i pad, a priceless external hard drive with every picture and video of my children Ive ever taken including their births on it, an ipod,a gps and brand new items still in bags purchased for my kids. They emailed her while I was incarcerated and told her that they needed me to get my property but upon my relase they refused to speak with me or allow me to pick up the property. They then said 2 days later that the night previous they had mistakenly "disposed" of my property in the trash and that was that. They then totaled a car with a damaged fender and stuck my friend with the bill. I found out through my credit card company that my car was being used for fraudulent purchases 8 days after I was arrested and one of the transactions was at a Starbucks right near the relay rides business front where my property was taken. The manager there lied to me and my stuff was stolen almost immediately after it was taken there by employees and they refuse to even talk to me. Do not deal with this business they are fraudulent and crooked

You are one hot mess. As for your complaint ...

just what is the issue you're complaining about? Your "friend" or foes, or rental car charge by your "friend?" Aye yiyi! I haven't a clue what went down, who did what, nor which "friend" you're referring to.

Your lack of writing skills has your complaint showing zero information as to what you're trying to claim.

SMH!?

I'd give them *** the likes they would never forget. The wrath I'd bring down would be ***.

RelayRides - Car Rental Booking Review from Naperville, Illinois

I had a successful rental from RelayRides last week. ($549) then I tried booking a rental for this week ($797) and a hold was placed on my account by "Trust & Safety" and they wanted all the verification to be done again. Which was fine. I took all the pictures and submitted everything. Then a day later they get back to me saying there is another account with similar information attached to mine. So they asked if I knew and if so, to give an explanation. The info made sense, it was my sons account. The address was the same. So I explained that it's my sons account and we had used the same address. They then replied asking for both of us to take photos with our license, our face, and our credit card. We submitted 6 pictures total. After another day and having to call multiple times, they send an email saying that the account is going thru a brief review and will be taken care of shortly. So again I called and of course they said the same thing... The "Trust & Safety" Department can only be contacted by email.. What business doesn't have a phone service to such an "important" department?? Anyway, they sent another email back this morning saying that the closed my account and will not disclose why. They also closed my sons account. My suggestion is that it's not worth saving a little money by dealing with this company. Stick to Entrrprise or one of the other main leaders of rentals. And stay far far far away from this company.

Yep it's crazy!! I hope this company gets shut down.

I have heard so many bad things since I posted this. (I forgot my password so that's why it says anonymous) makes me so mad.

It would be a smart business decision on their part to include a reason and/ or an appeal option.
